Schools Across MMSD Prepare for Run of Winter Concerts

Schools across MMSD are preparing to welcome audiences to a variety of free musical performances in the run-up to winter break, which spans Dec. 23 through Jan. 3.

“Our students have been preparing diligently for these concerts over recent weeks,” said Dan Davidson, MMSD’s director of arts education. “We are excited to open our schools to the community, and to celebrate the season, the arts and the amazing talents of all of our performers.”

The full slate of shows is as follows:

Tuesday, Dec. 10

  • La Follette High School (702 Pflaum Rd.), Winter Choir Concert, 7 p.m.
  • Georgia O’Keeffe Middle School (510 S. Thornton Ave.), Choir Concert, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 11

  • Sherman Middle School (1610 Ruskin St.), Winter Choir Concert, 5:30 p.m.
  • Ezekiel Gillespie Middle School (201 S. Gammon Rd. [this performance will take place at Vel Phillips Memorial High School]), Grades 6 & 7 Orchestra & Band Concert, 6:30 p.m. 
  • Georgia O’Keeffe Middle School (510 S. Thornton Ave.), Grades 7, 8 & Jazz Bands Concert, 7 p.m.
  • West High School (30 Ash St.), Winter Jazz Concert, 7 p.m.
  • Vel Phillips Memorial High School w/ Gillespie Grade 8 Band (201 S. Gammon Rd.), 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 12
